Addressing barriers to minority homeownership is a key priority for Virginia Housing. One way we make a difference is by partnering with minority-owned businesses, organizations and nonprofits. Recently, our Business Development Officer Joni Moncure worked with the KEY Team of Icon Realty Group, an African American owned independent real estate brokerage in Richmond, to give a presentation about Virginia Housing’s first-time homebuyer programs and grants. The event, called Love + Loans, was held on Feb. 15 and drew more than two dozen participants.

“We believe education is a great place to start,” said Moncure. “We’ve held lunch and learns, educational webinar seminars and individualized trainings with churches, communities and industry partners. Reducing the minority homeownership gap is top of mind at Virginia Housing, and we are always looking for ways in which we can improve this dynamic.”

Virginia Housing works with minority partners across the state such as the NAACP, National Association of Minority Mortgage Bankers of America and others. We look forward to growing our network to include more organizations, lending partners and Realtors.
